In conjunction with a projected £7.2m refurbishment project at Barking and Dagenham College, Johnsons was recently appointed to provide an expert installation service of teaching spaces, study spaces and café area furniture, along with soft seating and electronic devices.


Our Specialist Delivery Manager drew up a project plan based on a five day consignment receipt, distribution and build programme of works.

He consulted with each of the nine furniture manufacturers and allocated specific time slots for the delivery of their consignments. He used the order forms to cross check the receipt of goods against the delivery notes, ensuring every item was accounted for upon receipt of each delivery and supported by floorplans of the building, he guided the placement of shipments over three floors in accordance with the design plans.

From here, his installation teams built desks and breakfast bars, coffee tables, stools and swivel chairs, they installed shelving, pedestals and soft seating throughout, satisfying the College’s requirements.


Speaking about the project, Kevin Stuart, Specialist Delivery Manager, said:

“The key to success on this project was booking in timed delivery slots with each of the furniture manufacturers. This meant we could control the distribution of individual shipments throughout the building causing as little disruption to the live floors as possible.”
